The RAAWstudio is an emerging architecture, art and interiors practice based in Hong Kong, led by Ricci Wong, with a team of international designers to provide architecture, interior, installation, furniture, art and product design services. The Hong Kong studio was opened in mid 2011. The diversity of the practice with its collaborators reinforces a core vision for the practice:
To Design, one has to make.
To Make, one has to love.
We Love the fun we have made.
We love what we have designed.
The practice has since produced a string of successful art and interior projects for reputable developers such as Sun Hung Kai, as well as commercial companies such as Shangrila, OMA, Art Central and Tung Wah. It has been recognized for its achievements in design and development and assigned projects such the Hong Kong Pavilion at Art Basel.
By having both our workshop and design studio based in Hong Kong, we are a unique and different stream of design studio, we are able to both conceive our designs, while testing and building them with our own hands giving us a key advantage in the industry.
By incorporating design and build disciplines in technological production, we strongly believe in architecture and art being an emotional, spatial experience produced by both the designer and the user. Our design methodology involves the observation, experimentation and analysis of both materials and making.
We care about what we create and how the community can enjoy it on a personal and sociological level. Our workshop and studio has a rigorous methodology in research by design, using high quality research and experimentation that explores new methods and the robotic aspect of design. Because of this we build many of our products and materials in our own local Hong Kong workshop.
RAAW has been recently working with the Hong Kong Design Institute providing support for the future generation of Hong Kong designers.
