Spider Chair

Date: 2013-05

Designer: Ricci Wong & Geoff Chan

Exhibition: Beyond Architecture

Made in RAAW

Spider Chair is a furniture product designed & produced in our Fotanian workshop.

The chair was a result of saving wood that had been left over from a commission.

The material qualities of the 13-ply plywood sparked our inspiration. By milling into the plywood and finding out the immensity of the layers - we saw potential and it inspired us to recreate beautiful patterns derived from nature, like that of the tiger, butterfly or moth.

For the legs we then looked at the simple canton steel folding chairs. These were the ones found at the old cheap market food stalls and the ones gangsters used to fight with. We then modified the legs of the stool, making it slender and pointy - much like a tiny little creatures legs to walk on.
